Homely, warm and friendly childcare with an emphasis on outdoor play and learning.

Woodlands is open Monday to Friday from 07:45 to 18:00.

At Woodlands, we provide a welcoming, homely environment where children can develop and learn through play. We provide a balance between child initiated and adult-led activities. We use the updated statutory framework, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS 2023) and the Development Matters (DM 2023) as a guide for children’s assessment and to evaluate their learning and holistic development.

We are registered by Ofsted and our setting is insured by The Early Years Alliance.

Woodlands Nursery

Our Approach

Woodlands Nursery is set in a beautiful house surrounded by a large, safe and resourceful garden that children access freely. We promote outdoor play as an important way of learning.

The Woodlands approach to learning and development places play at the heart of what we do. Play allows children to follow and develop their own interests and learn vital skills, such as, independence, problem solving and creativity.

Our curriculum is based on the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2023). We plan and provide a range of learning experiences to extend children’s learning in all areas. We offer a free-flow access between indoors and outdoors to promote a child-led environment.

Woodlands Nursery Character

Our Aims

  • Offer a homely, warm and friendly environment for children and their parents.

  • Provide high standards of learning and education for children below statutory school age.

  • Provide a language-rich environment to extend communication and language skills.

  • Our nursery uses the key-worker system to help children form secure attachments and facilitate parental involvement. Children are supported to manage their emotions and to develop a positive sense of self.

  • Promote physical development. We encourage children to engage in their own play, make choices and have free flow between indoors and outdoors.

  • We promote healthy eating by offering healthy snacks and balanced meals. The Woodlands menu does not contain salt, sugar or processed food.

  • We work in partnership with parents to meet children’s individual needs and interests.

  • Woodlands promotes equality and celebrates diversity.

  • The environment is the third teacher.” (Thornton L. and Brunton P., 2015 “Understanding the Reggio Approach: Early Years Education and Practice). Our setting is design to be not only functional but also beautiful and reflective of children’s learning. We provide interesting resources to nourish the children’s curiosity and natural ability to learn and problem-solve.
